we are excited to work with you soon!

a few things before your Consult…

Please read through the FAQs below to make sure you know what to expect.

We want you to get the most out of working with us, so please come prepared for your consultation. This will help things run smoothly so we can make the most of our time together! So, here are what we love for you to provide to us ahead of your initial consultation with us:

  1. A copy of your blood work results from the last 6-12 months. Haven’t had any before then? Drop us an email, and we can help point you in the right direction!
  2. A summary of your current supplements and medications (if any), including brand name, when you take them and how much of each you take.

We recommend providing as much information about your health as possible before your consultation so we can tailor our recommendations to your unique circumstances, and bloodwork can be particularly useful! Collate your pathology results from the last 6-12 months before your appointment and email them to us at [email protected]

If your bloodwork is out of date, there may be something missing that you think might be valuable, or you need some guidance on what might be relevant to test for on your journey, please email us after you have booked your consultation and one of our practitioners can provide some general guidance so you can make the most of your consultation with us!

Please allow enough time before your appointment for this process, we will not be able to accommodate last minute reschedule requests as per our practice policy.

The initial consultation is an opportunity for your dietitian to gather all the information about you, ask questions and understand your goals from working with us! Our clients are often surprised about how long this takes, which is why we offer longer consultation times than most standard dietitian practices. A thorough initial consultation allows us to provide more detailed and effective nutrition advice. We will ask you questions about your medical & family history, your medications, supplements, sleep, bowels, your menstrual cycle, your average week of eating, your movement habits, we will review any blood work that you submit to us ahead of time, and we may also discuss your body weight (if relevant).

After this, we can then devise a list of goals and priorities with you and map out what your next steps look like.

We do our best to give you a few action items to take away from the consult to start working on, time allowing, expect to get the ball rolling by your next session!

This is a really tricky question to answer without getting to know you some more! After your initial consultation, you and your dietitian will get an idea of what your goals and priorities are and how long this may take.

Naturally, unexpected events happen in life, new diagnoses, new blood tests, setbacks and changes in circumstances occur and we are here to guide and support you through it! So sometimes you may need more sessions than you or your dietitian anticipated.

We may not recommend a “number of sessions” but rather design some goals and milestones for you to reach before looking at reducing the session frequency or the sessions altogether.

Everybody’s journey looks different! And we get that here at The Dietologist!

We are happy to discuss this in your consultation, so just ask your dietitian for more details based on your specific situation.

For this service, we allocate only 30 minutes to assess your prenatal supplement regime requirements; we cannot extend the consultation time if you wish to discuss any of your needs further as we are usually booked back-to-back with our clients. If you’re looking for a comprehensive nutrition assessment AND a bespoke supplementation plan, check out our Fertility Nutrition Intensive consult, where we can dive in deep on both with plenty of time for any of your questions to be answered!

Great question! We use a combination of key pieces of information to design our prenatal supplementation plans for you.

  • Your medical history – some medical conditions may mean you need more or less of certain prenatal nutrients.
  • Your age – the sad reality is that as we get older, our fertility does decline. There is research about specific nutrients and supplements we can utilise to help with egg and embryo quality associated with age-related quality decline.
  • Your fertility history and goals.
  • Your medications – some supplements and medications don’t mix, or may mean you need more of a certain nutrient in your plan!
  • Your diet – your dietary quality can impact our recommendations, as well as any dietary preferences and cultural needs – e.g. vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian, Halal, gluten-free, dairy-free, lactose-free or allergens.
  • Your body size – people in larger bodies require more of the key prenatal nutrients, so we need to assess whether there is an increased demand for critical nutrients like folate and vitamin D to support your reproductive health and fertility.
  • Your blood work – provides us insights regarding your nutritional status, alongside some general health parameters to help us customise your recommendations.

We take all these factors into account and your preferences and perspectives to provide a customised prenatal supplement plan recommendation for you!

If your care involves the use of supplementation, for whatever reason, and it is within our scope of practice, we can provide you specific, tailored recommendations and directions about how and when to take these, as well as when you may need to discontinue or what monitoring may be involved to ensure they are effective. We provide a full rationale behind any supplements we recommend and why we have selected it for you, so you can feel assured you are taking what is right for you based on your needs!

You need a few pieces to help get connected to your dietitian at The Dietologist:

  1. A laptop or computer with a webcam and microphone is preferred. A smartphone works too when you’re on the go!
  2. A reliable Wi-Fi or Internet Connection.
  3. A headset or earphones are preferable.
  4. You don’t need to have Zoom installed on your phone or laptop; however, it can make for a smoother experience for you!
  5. That’s it! Click the link in your appointment confirmation email a few minutes before your appointment begins.

We are here to help. If you have any issues with the above, please contact us via email at [email protected]

No. The consultation fee covers the expertise and knowledge of your dietitian and the design of your own bespoke plan and recommendations, which are emailed to you after your session, including where to purchase your products. Due to the individual nature of each supplementation plan, our fee does NOT cover any of the costs of purchasing the supplements or the ongoing costs of re-purchasing your products.
